Van Gogh's Vase of Gladioli is an oil painting on canvas that may be found in Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum (Vincent van Gogh Foundation). Van Gogh painted more than 35 flower still lifes in Paris during the summer of 1886, including this one. He hoped that his floral paintings would do well. These were also experiments in loose painting and the use of colour. He often paired complementary colours in his artwork, such as blue and orange or green and red. These pairs serve as the foundation for Eugène Delacroix's colour theory.
