A collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh depicting blossoming almond trees in Arles and Saint-Rémy, southern France, between 1888 and 1890 is called Almond Blossoms. For van Gogh, flowering trees held a unique place. They stood for hope and awakening. He preferred painting blooming trees because of their visual appeal. Japanese woodcuts, Divisionism, and Impressionism, are all reflected in the artwork. In honor of the birth of his nephew and namesake, the son of his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo, Almond Blossom, was created. In southern France in 1888, van Gogh found inspiration and started the most productive phase of his artistic career.
